Screen printing

(or silk screen printing) is an artisan printing technique used to reproduce images on any surface. It is one of the oldest printing techniques so much so that to find out its origins one must travel back to ancient China. In screen printing, the print is done through a cliché. The screen printing cliché consists of a frame on to which a special mesh fabric is stretched; one part of this material is then covered using photomechanical processes in order to leave the areas where the designs or text are to be printed, free. By way of a Racla (rubber sheet) you let the ink run, pressing on the cliché which only passes on the mesh left free, resting on the chosen support and thus the design is reproduced. It allows printing of items of all shapes and sizes, on any material, from fabric to paper.

Nivule + Pesci Rossi is an independent, artisanal tailors based in Piacenza. It produces clothing which is all meticulously designed, created and packaged by hand. They use high quality natural materials sourced following careful research and recycled from fabrics which have been discontinued or discarded by the Italian textile industry. They collaborate with Italian illustrators to create decorated fabrics with which they produce their original garments. In 2007 the capsule Collection – Ho la testa tre le Nivule e I Pesci Rossi – was launched, dedicated entirely to the explosive union and meeting of minds of Novella and Tania: Nivule + Pesci Rossi. The hand printed silkscreen garments combine graphics and tailoring in the spirit of creating original, hand crafted products.
